Hi Bob! During the winter I wear a full face helmet to keep the chill off. In the mechanics manual for my Intruder there is a wind chill chart. It looks something like this:

MPH Actual Thermometer Reading
-----------------------------------------------
0 50 40 30 20 10 0 -10
-----------------------------------------------
Wind Chill (what it feels like)
-----------------------------------------------
10 40 28 16 4 -9 -21 -33

20 32 18 4 -10 -25 -39 -53

30 28 13 -2 -18 -33 -48 -63

40 26 10 -6 -21 -37 -53 -69

It also says that speeds above 40mph have little
additional effect on felt temperature. From -10
on down exposed flesh is in danger of freezing.
From 50 down to -10 there is little danger if you
are properly clothed. Hope that helps.

I personally wear a Bieffe BR12 full face helmet. It is only DOT, not SNELL. It is a personal decision. I read all I could on helmets before I bought it and then made my choice. During the warmer months I wear a Monarch shorty (police style) because my Bieffe is black, yellow, and purple, and gets REAL hot when the temperature outside is above 60. Good luck!

KIBTD's and Happy New Year!
